Apple's latest gadget - the iPhone 4S - with some spectacular things like iOS 5, Siri etc. has been in the news for all the right reasons - but for one thing: battery trouble. Quite a lot of people have reported the battery problem in recent week. There have been reports where people have faced a single-day drain out of the battery on the iPhone 4S.
If you see Apple's tech specs on the 4S, you might notice that what was a 300 hr standby (on the iPhone 4) has become 200 hrs. Well, one thing that tells us is Apple itself acknowledges that the iPhone 4S is going to use up more battery power than its predecessor.
What it doesn't tell us is why it happens. We can speculate it's because of apps like Siri and faster performance, but the folks at iDownload have gone to the root of the problem and figured out something credible which you can try, too:
1. Open up your Location Settings
2. On it, you'll find that the Set Time Zone would be turned on.
3. Turn it off and check how the iPhone 4S battery fares.
As simple as it might sound, following the research done by iDownload, the problem does seem to be with the automatic Time Zone setting.
Forbes says Apple isn't yet officially acknowledging the problem yet, but there have been reports from all across the cyberspace. Even The Guardian has reported on this.
On the Apple forums, quite a number of people have been voicing concerns about this issue. Some people have tried doing a complete restore and that hasn't helped much. There have been reports suggesting changes in the notification center - too many apps having notifications might also be a cause of the faster battery drain.
As there isn't any official news from Apple yet, it's hard to figure out what exactly is the reason.
There are quite a lot of other ways you can save up on battery time:
- Turn off Wi-Fi when not in use.
- Are those Lock Screen Notifications very much necessary? If not, turn them off.
- Is your iPhone 4S too bright? Can you use it with a little lesser brightness? Try sliding the brightness down by a bit.
- Sync is a major battery drainer. You could schedule your sync instead of keeping it alive all the time.
So, to conclude, your iPhone 4S can provide you a longer duration of activity if you turned off the Set Time Zone setting, turned off your Wi-Fi if you're not using it and turn off auto-sync because you can sync manually anyway. Meanwhile, we'll all be waiting for official word from Apple.
